Srila Prabhupada

Founder-Acarya of ISKCON (1896–1977)

Srila Prabhupada is the founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and a pioneering teacher of bhakti-yoga in the modern world. Sailing alone to New York in 1965 at age seventy, he began sharing the Bhagavad-gita and congregational chanting of Krishna's names, touching the hearts of many seekers and transforming their lives. Within a decade he established ISKCON temples and spiritual communities on six continents, along with schools and prasadam (sanctified vegetarian food) programs that brought devotion into everyday life.

He translated and wrote more than seventy major works, including Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad-Bhagavatam, and Sri Caitanya-caritamrita, which present the philosophy and practice of Krishna-bhakti and continue to guide spiritual practitioners and communities worldwide; his life of simplicity, compassion, and unwavering dedication to Krishna still inspires devotees to share this wisdom through kirtan, book distribution, and loving service.
